Upon seeing its reflection in the water, it thought that it was another dog with an even bigger piece of meat, and letting go of the meat it had in its mouth, jumped down to grab the other. That’s how it ended up without either one or the other: one because it didn’t exist in the first place, the other because it was carried away by the current.
